Fox 17 Newsroom

It is the fastest growing cosmetic procedure in the United States. We're talking chin implants. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, chin implants are up 71% in the last 2 years. Part of the reason why may surprise you. Various plastic surgeons from all over post their own videos of chin implant surgery on the internet. The results are astounding. From a sagging chin to a stronger more natural looking jawline. Rose Underwood of Nashville perfers a needle over a knife. That's why she's getting injectable fillers, about 4-6 shots into her chin. Dr. Brian Biesman says the 10-minute procedure can last for years and is cheaper than surgery. You see the results. You'd never guess Rose is pushing 70. Chin implants have skyrocketed in the last few years. In fact, more people sought out chin impilants last year than breast augmentation, Botox and liposuction combined. It's interesting how modern technology has affected modern medicine. Applications like Skype on your computer or Facetime on your phone is making people see double, as in double chin. Not everyone needs chin work. Dr. Biesman says he's actually turned away patients who wanted something done after seeing themselves on Skype or Facetime. For Rose, the procedure has made a difference. It's easier to keep her chin up after seeing the before and after pictures. Dr. Biesman says another reason chin implants have become more popular are because of the struggling job market. He says older people are competing with the 20-something's for the same job, therefore, they're wanting to look younger.

More men undergoing plastic surgery procedures

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

More and more men across the country are choosing to undergo plastic surgery procedures in an effort to freshen up their appearances.

Among those electing to undergo procedures include Nashville optometrist Jeremy Scoggins.

The 37-year-old told Nashville's News 2 is he having a small amount of work done that does not require him to go under the knife.

"I have a few spots on my face and body that I wanted to have Dr. Brian Biesman look at and see if there's any treatment for that," Scoggins explained, adding, "I just want to keep looking the best I can for as long as I can."

Dr. Brian Biesman with the Nashville Centre for Laser and Facial Surgery will perform a laser treatment on Scoggins to get rid of broken capillaries on his face and chest that were caused by long summers in the sun as a child without using sunscreen.

"I just didn't think about it you know and I'm not as fortunate as others with my light skin complexion," Scoggins said.

Scoggins also added the upcoming procedure is not the first he has undergone. He also recently visited Dr. Biesman's office to address lines between his eyebrows.

"It was probably a little deep from squinting all those years, so I got some filler and that's helped take that away quite a bit," he said.

Dr. Biesman told Nashville's News 2 he has noticed an increase in the number of men who are wanting to have cosmetic procedures.

"They want filler, Botox, laser non-invasive skin tightening treatments," he explained.

He also added that a majority of his male patients usually range in age from 40 to 60-years-old and their reasons to undergo the procedures range from a desire to look younger to their spouses and partners pushing them to have work done.

"They're always very self-conscious about looking different. They don't want to look different they don't want their colleagues to notice them looking different, yet they just want to look better," Dr. Biesman said.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the top minimally invasive procedures for men include Botox, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and fillers, while the top five surgical procedures are rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, liposuction, hair transplants and breast reduction.

Dr. Biesman added the cosmetic procedures are becoming more popular for men since it is becoming socially acceptable to undergo the procedures and because the economy is improving.
